Don't Let Your Ostomy Take Over Your Life

Life can certainly be full of a whole lot of lessons and I am rather certain that it is truly a good time to be alive right now.  It may be 2021 now but it is ok that our country is unstable.  It is still bright outside and there really is no one dying all around me as the news would state.  The capital may have had a 3-hour riot, but where I live all is well.  My family had a wonderful holiday season.  I spent a lot of time enjoying the company of family and friends throughout the holidays.  It was nice to sit back talk and enjoy the best parts of life.  What I am also glad for is that our economy is still working and I am able to happily receive all the medical gear that I need.

Many people in teh world are not nearly as lucky as we are.  We have all the running water and heat that we could ever need and no matter what a hospital will take care of you if something goes wrong or you get in an accident.  I also have the best possible ostomy gear available to me at almost any time I want.  I can order different bags and any number of items that I could ever want and have them sent to me in a couple of days.  What this means is that I have nothing to worry about and that life really is good.  I am honestly super happy that I had an ostomy because it eliminated a ton of pain in my life and now all I have to do is simply do a few extra steps to my daily routine.

It is pretty sad to sometimes see that people are not so grateful for being able to live a fairly normal life.  Instead of enjoying all that is available just like some do with the news they cower in fear.  They see only the bad and believe all the negative aspects of life and pretend that the world is falling apart.  I saw a good amount of that in the holidays as we had a new president being elected and tons of fraud was going on.  But when we look outside, nothing has changed and it really won't to a great extent.  The fact is that if you have a stoma that your life is pretty much going to be the same as well.  I am a really big outdoor enthusiast and for a moment I was afraid that all my outdoor fun was going to be gone in a flash.

If I listened to so many people in the ostomy world I may have believed that I was no longer able to be active.  But luckily in 2021 we have information available in an instant and I can see people with stomas running marathons and iron man competitions with stomas.  I have seen so many people do insane things that I know my body couldn't do even without a stoma.  It is really nice to know that I can go out and fish, hunt, play basketball, and all while having a stoma.  A contact sport is not the end of the world if you are careful and it is all still available.
